660 FNUS63 KABR 040739 RFDABR Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Aberdeen SD 239 AM CDT Thu Jun 4 2026 .DISCUSSION... Both Thursday and Friday, low Grassland Fire Danger is expected. Afternoon humidity will remain above 40 percent both days, with the exception of parts of central and north central South Dakota reaching 30-40 percent Friday afternoon. Winds will also remain fairly light through that time frame, generally 5-10 miles per hour gusting up to 15 miles per hour. Wind direction will be out of the southeast today before becoming light and variable overnight and finally shifting to be northwesterly on Friday. The main fire weather concern today will be chances for thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. Scattered storms are expected to develop over central and north central South Dakota during the afternoon before progressing east through the evening. A second round of storms will move into central South Dakota from the west during the evening hours as well. Where storms develop, the main fire weather threats will be cloud to ground lightning and severe wind gusts of 60 miles per hour. Storms may also produce large hail, tornadoes, and flooding due to the heavy rainfall. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low.
