Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

Dry and windy conditions expected through the weekend with highs in
the mid 80s to the lower 90s today and upper 80s to the mid 90s for
Sunday. It will also feel humid with overall dewpoints in the upper
50s to the mid 60s. Winds will be out of the south to southeast,
with gusts of 30 to 50 mph over central South Dakota this afternoon
and west of Interstate 29 Sunday afternoon. Highest gusts will be
over portions of north central South Dakota. Relative humidity will
drop between 27 to 40 percent this afternoon and 27 to 50 percent
Sunday afternoon with the lowest values over central South Dakota.
Grassland Fire Danger Index jumps back to High category over portions
of north central South Dakota Sunday afternoon. The threat for
showers and thunderstorms return Sunday evening into Sunday night
over central South Dakota and northeastern SD early Monday through
Monday afternoon.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread.  Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.


The outlook for Sunday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate to high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Sunday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to moderate category.
