Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

Winds today will gradually switch to the north and northwest behind
a passing frontal boundary. Showers and thunderstorms will persist
across the region this morning, some of which may be severe. Then
and additional round of thunderstorms may develop across portions of
central and northeast South Dakota into west central Minnesota later
this afternoon into this evening. Some of these thunderstorms may
become severe. Afternoon humidity is forecast to range from 35 to
65 percent for most of the area.

Light and variable winds on Tuesday may eventually settle into a
northeast direction while humidity values drop to between 45 and 65
percent for most areas.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
