Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
319 AM CST Sun Nov 2 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Southwesterly winds are expected this morning, mainly over
northeastern South Dakota ahead of a warm front. Gusts may reach up
to 40 miles per hour this morning in that area, but humidity will
still be fairly high, limiting fire weather concerns. Behind the
warm frontal passage this morning, dew points will increase to the
upper 30s to low 40s, which will help keep humidity above 40 percent
during peak temperatures this afternoon. A cold front is expected to
pass through this afternoon into this evening, with strong
northwesterly winds filling in behind it. The main area of concern
is over north central South Dakota, where wind gusts will reach 35
to 45 miles per hour. These winds combine with drier air behind the
front (minimum afternoon humidity ranging from 30 to 40 percent)
along with peak temperatures to create High to Very High Grassland
Fire Danger this afternoon.

...VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Very poor weather conditions and very low moisture content of
grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that dangerous burning conditions exist. Fires will
spread rapidly and show erratic behavior. Outdoor burning is
not recommended.

The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.

closely monitored.

will reach the low to moderate category.
