Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
331 AM CST Fri Nov 21 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Fog will continue over mainly central South Dakota this morning,
with pockets of dense freezing fog where visibilities fall below half
a mile. Areas of dense fog have the potential to create a light icing
on vehicles and roadways.

An area of high pressure overhead will slowly exit across Minnesota
this afternoon as winds will be out of a southerly direction at 5 to
10 mph. Minimum relative humidity values will range from 50 to 70
percent this afternoon, lowest over far northeastern South Dakota and
west central Minnesota.

Our next chance of light precipitation will be late Monday night
through Tuesday. Much cooler air will move in Tuesday, with any
light rain transitioning to light snow during the day. Winds out of
the northwest are forecast to gust 35 to 45 mph Tuesday afternoon
across South Dakota. If drier conditions prevail, Grassland Fire
Danger Index values could rise into the high to potentially very high
categories Tuesday afternoon.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.

The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.
