Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

Bands of rain will continue this morning across the region, with the
exception of far northeastern SD into west central MN. Rain will
taper off northwest to southeast through late this afternoon.
Rainfall amounts exceeding 0.25" is 40 to 55% along and south of a
line from Eagle Butte to Watertown. Drier conditions are expected on
Tuesday with periodic chances of rain returning Tuesday night
through the end of the week. Southerly winds will increase Tuesday
with gusts of 25 to 35 mph across central South Dakota. These higher
gusts will spread eastward across the region through Wednesday
afternoon. Minimum relative humidity will be above 50% this
afternoon and Tuesday afternoon keeping Grassland Fire Danger Index
in the Low category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
