Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
330 AM CST Tue Dec 30 2025

.DISCUSSION...

There is a 20% chance for precipitation over far northeastern SD
this morning while the rest of the area will stay dry. Northwest
winds will increase into the afternoon to be gusting up around 25 to
35 mph. These stronger gusts will be mainly over the Leola Hills and
to the south into south central South Dakota as well as along the
eastern sloped of the Prairie Coteau. The minimum relative humidity
values will stay above 60 percent over most of central and
northeastern South Dakota, except for south central South Dakota,
which will see values down to 55 prevent today. The lower humidity
values, stronger wind gusts, and low percentage of green vegetation
lead to areas in south central South Dakota to have high grassland
fire danger index values.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger
index will reach the moderate to high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger
index will reach the low to moderate category.
