.DISCUSSION...
Very light, on and off rain is expected through Friday evening as
a weak system south of the Kenai moves east towards Yakutat.
Rainfall totals between now and the start of the race look light
(0.1 to 0.2 in). On Saturday, a north to south oriented front will
spread light to moderate rain over the area starting around
sunrise and continuing through most of the daylight hours.
Rainfall will be the heaviest between 9am and 1pm. As to be
expected in complex terrain, the weather will differ between
Primrose and Lost Lake. With the south to north wind (southerly
winds) coming into Resurrection Bay, winds near the lake and on
the alpine tundra portion of the course may be gusting up to 20-30
mph at the high end. The north side of the course is likely to be
more sheltered from winds and precipitation. If the race ends on
the Seward side, heavier rain is expected there. Once the rain
starts on Saturday, any fog that develops will mix out, but cloud
ceilings will likely be between 1500 and 2500 ft, with the higher
ceilings more likely on the Primrose side of the course.
