ANALYSIS CONFIDENCE...High

SYNOPSIS...Low pressure over the Chukchi Sea will move off to the
northeast as it continues to weaken. High pressure will build over
the Chukchi Sea Wednesday, then continues eastward into the Beaufort
Sea Thursday through Saturday.

FORECAST FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast
confidence is high. Southerly winds will become light on Wednesday,
then become northerly Thursday. As the high moves east over the
Beaufort Sea, winds near the coast will become easterly Friday and
Saturday. Sea ice near the coast will move north Tuesday into
Wednesday, then back toward the coast on Thursday. The westerly
winds Friday and Saturday will allow sea ice to drift west along the
coast.

The main ice edge extends from near Cape Lisburne to 69 53N 171
33W and continues west into Russian waters. The ice edge is open
water.

From land-based points in Alaska, the main ice edge extends from
near Cape Lisburne to 125 nm west-northwest of Cape Lisburne and
continues west into Russian waters. The ice edge is open water.

FORECAST FOR THE CHUKCHI SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast
confidence is high. Southerly to southeasterly winds will become
light and variable late Wednesday, then become northeasterly
Thursday through Saturday. Sea ice will generally drift north
through Wednesday, then to the west Thursday through Saturday. A
polynya will likely form off the northwest coast between Wainwright
and Point Barrow.
