.DISCUSSION...
As the front moves through the area, ceilings will remain around
3000 to 5000 ft. MVFR conditions are still likely to occur as
visibilities decrease with times of heavier precipitation down to
3 SM, especially near Sitka. The main aviation concerns are
threefold, with strong winds, low level wind shear, and (near Sitka)
thunderstorms. All of which are expected to continue through
the morning hours. Although the strongest winds moved through
overnight, wind shear remains as of the time of writing with
ESE winds up to 55 and 60 kts at around 2000 feet over
both the Ketchikan and Sitka Airports. This strong low level wind
shear will continue for the next few hours before slowly starting
to diminish. Chances remain high into the early morning hours for
seeing wind shear around 2000 ft of between 40 and 55 kt. Wind shear
will only slowly decrease throughout the day, ending Friday evening
for Ketchikan.

Behind the front, winds greatly diminish to around 10 to 15 mph
with some infrequent gusts up to 30 and 35 mph in the afternoon
hours. MVFR to VFR conditions will continue across the panhandle
as lingering precipitation and showers will bring times of lower
visibilities and ceilings. The main aviation restriction will
continue to be visibilities from 3 to 5 SM during the morning
hours. Ceilings at this time will be the lowest near Ketchikan
around 2500 ft. Ceilings near Sitka will not generally be as low during
the morning, but should thunderstorms move overhead, CIGS will
drop. Chances of thunderstorms continue for the Sitka area through
early Friday morning, with periods of moderate to heavy showers
lasting for both Sitka, Ketchikan, and in between these areas through
the day on Friday before ending Friday evening.
