URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

...SNOW RETURNS TO NORTHERN HIGHWAYS WEDNESDAY...

.Tuesday night a strong low will move along the Panhandle coast
carrying plentiful moisture with it. Anticipate snow to begin
early Wednesday morning, with the heaviest snowfall moving
through the northern Panhandle into Wednesday afternoon, bringing
heavy and wet snow to the upper elevations of the Haines Highway
and the Klondike Highway. Most concern for snowfall continue to
be west of Haines towards Haines Customs and north of Skagway
towards White Pass.

Slightly pullback on area of snow to primarily be near Haines
Customs. Dense, wet snow will make up a majority of the
accumulating snow, with latest guidance further lowering snow
ratios.

Snow will continue to impact Klondike Highway Thursday. Stay
tuned for additional details at weather.gov/juneau.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM AKST
WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up
  to 6 inches.

* WHERE...Haines Highway, primarily near Haines Customs.

* WHEN...From 6 AM to 6 PM AKST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heavy and wet snow is forecasted to
  develop Wenesday morning into the evening along the upper
  elevations of the Haines Highway. The heaviest snowfall is
  expected between 9am to 3pm with 0.5 to 0.75 inch per hour
  rates at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water
with you in case of an emergency.

People are urged to prepare their property before the onset of
winter weather.

TO 6 AM AKST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 6
  inches. Visibility reduced to one mile or less at times.

* WHERE...Klondike Highway north of MP 5.

* WHEN...From noon Wednesday to 6 AM AKST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Southerly wind will increase early
  Thursday morning bringing inreasing potential for some
  drifting snow near White Pass with wind gust up to 25mph. The
  heaviest snowfall is expected between 9am to 3pm with 0.5 to
  0.75 inch per hour rates at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

People are urged to prepare their property before the onset of
winter weather.
