017 WWAK47 PAJK 060714 WSWAJK URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Juneau AK 1014 PM AKST Fri Dec 5 2025 ...SNOW FOR THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE THIS WEEKEND... .A pattern change is bringing colder temperatures and strong outflow winds extending southward through the weekend. This pattern, in combination with prolonged moisture, is producing accumulating heavy snow for the Haines and Klondike highways and communities of the northern panhandle as of Friday evening. Forecast confidence is that Advisory level snowfall will be moving into Yakutat. Confidence has increased that the Icy Strait Corridor could see significant snowfall accumulations Sunday to Monday. Heavy precipitation rates begin to reach Yakutat late Friday into early Saturday. The main forecast challenge over the Yakutat area continues to be the timing of when precipitation will become all snow which now looks to be late Friday night. The snow forecast for the Icy Strait Corridor is more likely to be Sunday and lasting into early next week, so we will continue to monitor and update the snow forecast. Cold temperatures are expected to continue to spread southward into early next week, increasing potential for a long duration snowfall event.
