The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  The Northeastern City of Chesapeake in southeastern Virginia...
  The Southeastern City of Norfolk in southeastern Virginia...
  The Northwestern City of Virginia Beach in southeastern Virginia...

* Until 830 PM EDT.

* At 631 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1 inch of rain has
  fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 30 minutes.
  Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in
  the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
  shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

  Virginia Beach, Kempsville, Virginia Wesleyan University, Regent
  University, Norfolk State University, Ocean View, Downtown
  Norfolk, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Norfolk International, Norview,
  Norfolk NAS, Bayside, Princess Anne Plaza, Gallups Corner, London
  Bridge, Greenbrier, Oceana NAS, Oceana and Wards Corner.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
