Forecast is based on ignition time of 0700 AKDT on September 22.
.DISCUSSION...
Northerly winds will at or below 10 mph will persist over the next
few days at the burn site. Isolated rain showers, possibly mixed
with a few snow flakes, this morning will taper off late morning
to early afternoon. Dry conditions will persist tonight into
Wednesday with little to no chance for precipitation. High
temperatures will be in the middle 40s today with low 30s for
tonight`s low and near 50 for Wednesday`s high. Expect minimum
relative humidities for today and Wednesday to remain near 60
percent.
Looking ahead in the forecast, confidence is increasing
that a strong front from the Bering Sea will move inland of
Southwest Alaska Thursday and will bring gusty southeasterly winds
over the burn area Thursday afternoon into Friday. There is
potential (30 to 50 percent chance at this time) for wind gusts
to be as strong as 30 to 40 mph at the burn site Thursday
afternoon through Thursday night. The majority of precipitation
with this front looks to stay confined to the Pacific-side of the
Alaska Peninsula with the burn site receiving little precipitation
due to the downslope drying effect of southeasterly flow across
the Aleutian Range.
