.DISCUSSION...
Dry conditions are expected over the next 24 hours as high
pressure builds into the region. That said, an extensive, mid- to
high-level stratus deck will remain in place throughout the
overnight period as a result of a weak low pressure system and
slow frontal boundary impacting areas well to our south. By
tomorrow, drying air from the incoming high will allow the
stratus cloud deck to thin, with skies becoming partly cloudy by
tomorrow afternoon. The latest KALY thermal profile indicates a
steep inversion just under 6 kft which could act to trap hazardous
material below this altitude. Likewise, forecast soundings
indicate a subsidence inversion throughout the day tomorrow around
5 kft which could be sufficient to trap material below this
altitude. Winds throughout the overnight period will prevail out
of the northeast to east at light sustained speeds generally under
5 mph. Tomorrow, a continuation of light winds can be expected
with a more persistent, eastwardly direction. Again, sustained
speeds will generally be around 3 to 5 mph, though some sufficient
mixing could allow for some periodic breeziness with gusts up to
12 mph. This breeze, along with the expected low-level mixing
beneath that 5 kft inversion could help to enhance dispersion of
hazardous material.
