...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM
EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations
  of 6 to 12 inches in the most persistent snow bands. Winds gusting
  as high as 40 mph will lead to blowing and drifting snow and
  reduced visibility.

* WHERE...Northern Herkimer County.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 7 AM EST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Periods of light snow is expected tonight
  through Tuesday night. A lake effect snow band will then lift
  northward into northern Herkimer County on Wednesday before
  tapering off Wednesday night.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can
also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

EST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations
  of 6 to 12 inches in the most persistent snow bands. Winds gusting
  as high as 50 mph will lead to blowing and drifting snow and near
  whiteout conditions.

* WHERE...Southern Herkimer County.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 7 AM EST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions will
  impact the Tuesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down
  tree branches.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lake effect snow will set up near and just
  south of the New York Thruway tonight and remain in place through
  Tuesday before lifting northward on Wednesday. Snowfall rates will
  reach 0.5 to 1 inch per hour at times.
