Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches in the most persistent lake effect bands. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. * WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties. * WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact holiday travel. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The lake effect band will slowly drop southward through the early morning hours. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible at times into the early morning hours. Upslope snow showers will occur this afternoon before tapering off tonight with additional light accumulations. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly.
