...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST
SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12
  inches in the most persistent lake effect bands. Winds gusting as
  high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.

* WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and
  blowing snow. Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions
  could impact holiday travel.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The lake effect band will slowly drop
  southward through the early morning hours. Snowfall rates of 1 to
  2 inches per hour possible at times into the early morning hours.
  Upslope snow showers will occur this afternoon before tapering off
  tonight with additional light accumulations.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can
also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations
  between 6 and 12 inches in the most persistent lake effect bands.
  Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Areas of blowing snow.

* WHERE...Southern Herkimer County.

* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and
  blowing snow. Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions
  could impact holiday travel.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The lake effect band will drop south into
  southern Herkimer County this morning. It will then set up around
  or south of the Thruway into this evening before diminishing early
  Saturday morning. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour
  possible at times.

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can

  conditions could impact holiday travel.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heavy lake effect snow showers may
  briefly produce snowfall rates of an inch an hour.

  Eastern Rensselaer County.

* WHEN...From 10 AM this morning to 10 PM EST this evening.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
  conditions could impact holiday travel.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowfall rates may briefly reach an inch an
  hour where the lake effect snow band sets up.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while
driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken
on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and
slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
