Survey Summary:
This tornado began near the intersection of Phillips Avenue and
Ramsey Blvd. on the southwest end of Keyes. Here it snapped a few
branches off of some elm trees and did damage to an older mobile
home by pushing it a couple of feet, despite being anchored down.
The tornado then continued northeast where it lifted an empty
grain silo and either rolled or tossed or a combination of both
across a field and landed about 100 yards or so to the northeast.
The tornado also snapped the top of a power pole. The tornado
continued northeast and caused some minor roof damage to the
community center, including the collapse of one of the walls and
destroyed the sidewalk awning connecting the two buildings.
Another power pole was also broken in a couple of spots. This
location likely had an enhancement of wind due to the enclosed
nature of the area. The tornado crossed Jefferson Avenue and
caused some damage to a carport awning and snapped tree branches
and a softwood tree. The most damage was around Polk Street where
it resulted in the collapse of an old pool hall, lifted the roof
off a building across the street, which resulted in the collapse
of an exterior wall. It then produced additional damage to a large
barn like structure along Monroe Avenue. It was after this point
that the tornado likely lifted as little in the way of damage was
noted. Much of the damage along the path was done to older, less
well built structures and this contributed to a lower rating. It
also created a very narrow path through town from southwest to
northeast.
