National Weather Service Amarillo TX
139 PM CDT Wed Jun 11 2025

...Mandatory Maintenance Planned for NWS Amarillo from Monday June
16 through Wednesday June 18 and Subsequent Service Interruptions
Expected...

The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Amarillo, Texas
will be conducting a required, scheduled update to their Advanced
Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) from Monday June 16,
2025 through approximately Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The NWS uses
the AWIPS computer system to display and integrate weather and
water information and to send life-saving information, such as
weather warnings, to the public.

During the time of the update, forecast operations will be
conducted by NWS Amarillo but may utilize our service backup
office in Albuquerque, New Mexico to minimize any potential
interruptions to services. Our core warning and forecast products
and services will not be impacted. This includes social media and
NWSChat. However, limited impacts will occur to the following
services:

All NOAA weather radio transmitters maintained by NWS Amarillo
will be off air through the time of the install. This will include
the following transmitters in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles:

Amarillo, Texas
Stinnett, Texas
Miami, Texas
Perryton, Texas
Guymon, Oklahoma
Dalhart, Texas
Stratford, Texas

In addition, a few local automated graphical forecast images that
are hosted on our webpage and climate text products (CLI, CF6) are
unlikely to update during the outage.

If weather warnings are issued, please have multiple ways to
receive warning information which can also include cell phone
applications, local television and radio or online at
www.weather.gov/ama.

The forecast office in Amarillo will remain open and staffed
throughout this period for public and partner phone calls and
additional functions that can be completed without AWIPS during
the install period.
