Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and Central North Dakota

.DISCUSSION...
Near critical fire weather conditions are forecast for Bowman and
Slope Counties in far southwest North Dakota this afternoon. A
warm front has moved thorough this area and temperatures are in
the lower to middle 80s. Through the rest of the afternoon, look
for west to northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 25
mph. Elsewhere across southwest ND, look for afternoon humidities
of 15 to 25 percent with winds becoming sustained at 15 to 20 mph
for only a few hours mid to late afternoon.
Elsewhere, southeast winds 15 to 25 mph over eastern portions of
central ND will begin to diminish around 4 PM this afternoon. The
lightest winds and highest humidities of 30 to 40 percent extend
from around Bowbells to Linton in central ND.
Tuesday will bring another day with low afternoon humidities
around 20 percent over far southwest North Dakota. Some breezy
northwest winds could develop again Tuesday afternoon, and
perhaps bring another day of near critical fire weather conditions
over portions of the southwest. There still remains some
uncertainty on the strength of these winds. In addition slightly
cooler temperatures will be found on Tuesday. Will continue to
monitor but for now we will hold off on mentioning near critical
conditions in the far southwest.
