...LOCAL GROWING SEASON BEGINS TODAY, MAY 9TH...

The National Weather Service office in Bismarck will begin
issuing Frost Advisories, Freeze Watches and Freeze Warnings for
western and central North Dakota today, May 9th, which is the
start of the local growing season.

A Frost Advisory will be issued when the temperature is expected
to be 33 to 36 degrees Fahrenheit, over a geographically
significant area during the next 24 hours. Some injury to
sensitive vegetation is expected as a result of these conditions.

A Freeze Watch will be issued when there is the potential for
temperatures to be 32 degrees Fahrenheit, or below, for longer
than one hour, over a geographically significant area during the
next 12 to 48 hours.

A Freeze Warning will be issued when the temperature is expected
to be 32 degrees Fahrenheit, or below, for longer than one hour,
over a geographically significant area during the next 24 hours.
Significant damage to vegetation is possible as a result of these
conditions.
