.DISCUSSION...Rest of today through Tuesday...
Scattered weak rain showers will continue across the area this
afternoon. An isolated thunderstorm that leads to a heavy downpour
cannot be ruled out over NE Colorado late this afternoon but
otherwise, rainfall amounts will remain light through Tuesday
afternoon. Winds should remain quite breezy and southerly at low
elevations, occasionally gusting to 25 mph. A cold front will push
through the I-25 corridor between 2AM-6AM tonight/early morning
Tuesday, bringing a northerly wind shift. Shower activity similar to
that seen today can be expected Tuesday afternoon.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Tuesday night through Saturday...
Tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Polo as well as a
storm system will bring a flood threat late Tuesday night through
Thursday morning. The heaviest rainfall is expected over the Palmer
Divide and adjacent plains, where rain totals may reach 1.5 to 2.5
inches, locally higher amounts is excess of 3 inches. While some
uncertainty remains regarding the footprint of the highest rainfall
amounts, it looks like the flood potential will be limited over the
mountains and burn scars given the lower rainfall rates. In terms of
snow, while no significant accumulations are expected, dustings may
be possible at elevations above 11,000ft.
Rain activity will decrease Thursday afternoon as the system moves
to our east. Quiet weather is expected for Friday and Saturday, with
temperatures climbing back up to near-seasonable. We do not expect
critical fire weather conditions through the forecast period.
