.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Sunday...High-based showers and
thunderstorms will continue to track eastward across the area.
Brief light to moderate rain and wind gusts to 50 mph will be
possible with this activity. The showers and storms come to an end
by mid evening as the airmass stabilizes.
Breezy westerly winds are expected to develop Sunday as westerly
flow aloft increases with a system passing north of Colorado.
Isolated high-based showers and storms will be possible, mainly
over northern Colorado. A cold front will cause winds to shift to
the north mid to late afternoon with gusts to 40 mph.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Sunday night through Thursday...
Weak westerly flow aloft is expected through Monday with a weak
upper trough to move across Monday night into Tuesday. Upper
ridging will dominate Wednesday and Thursday. Afternoon
humidities will drop into the teens for a few hours over the
plains most Monday through Wednesday afternoons, but wind speeds
are not expected to be very strong. Thursday has increased
moisture in the lower levels. So, critical fire weather
conditions are not expected through the period. Smoke
dispersal should be good to excellent in the afternoons for
much of the forecast area each day.
