...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 7 PM MDT THIS
EVENING...
.DISCUSSION...Another warm and dry day can be expected, but winds
will strengthen further from those observed yesterday. As a
result, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 1200-1900. South to
southwest winds of 8-14 mph this morning will become more westerly
by 1200 and increase with gusts of 25-30 mph expected this afternoon.
Humidity readings will drop to minimums around 13 percent. It
should be noted that a backdoor cold front will approach the area
between 7 and 10 am this morning. This may cause a brief wind
shift to the north or northwest.
For this evening, a fast moving cold front will bring a sudden
wind shift from the the northeast with gusts around 35 mph likely
around 9-10 pm. Winds will then gradually weaken overnight.
Wednesday will feature cooler temperatures but dry conditions.
Humidity readings will increase just slightly from those observed
today. While forecast guidance is mixed regarding wind direction,
the large scale pattern favors northeast-east-southeast winds at
speeds of 6-12 mph during the day. There`s a small (20% chance)
that gusty northwest winds redevelop in the afternoon.
We`re still confident that stronger winds and critical fire
weather conditions will develop Thursday, likely lasting into
Friday and Saturday.
