Several things of note during this upcoming TAF period. First,
convection has moved off to the north and east of DEN, and only a
few weak showers are expected over the next hour or so. Winds are
light and variable at DEN and APA, while BJC remains in fairly
gusty westerly flow from decaying showers over the foothills.
First concern is the potential for either FG or low stratus
developing after midnight tonight. Most of the available 18z
guidance is on board with a weak push of northerly flow (likely
associated with this current cluster of convection) near 06z,
with rich near surface moisture behind it. The last several cycles
of the HRRR/RAP are in broad agreement, with support from both
NAMs and a few other models. Given saturated/moist adiabatic
profiles through a depth of ~1km, BUFKIT profiles would lean
towards stratus over fog... which is also reflected in the TAF.
Guidance burns most of this stratus off quickly during the morning
hours Saturday, leading to sufficient destabilization before yet
another wave of convection early Saturday afternoon. Fairly good
agreement on the timing here, with TS moving off the foothills by
19-20z and pushing east of the metro by around 00z in the evening.
Finally, guidance is a bit more bullish with FG/stratus potential
Saturday night into Sunday... perhaps as early as sunset Saturday
evening. Have at least included a mention for now at DEN, but a
lot to get through before getting to worried about the specifics.

VFR conditions are expected at COS, PUB and ALS over the next 24
hours. Drier air moves into the region within increasing westerly
flow through the day tomorrow, however, there will be enough
moisture and lift associated with passing wave to support
scattered afternoon storms, with the greatest coverage across
the eastern mtns into the southeast Plains, where severe storms
will be possible, and have added Prob30s for -tsra at both COS
and PUB aft 20Z. Decreasing clouds overnight will bring the
potential for fog at ALS aft 10Z, however not enough confidence
to include any low cigs and vis attm. Otherwise, light diurnal
wind regimes at the terminals, after convection ends, with
breezy southerly winds at the terminals aft 18Z.

along and north of I-70, and will continue to do so through
06Z. These storms have been capable of producing large hail and
heavy rainfall. Activity will transition from convective to more
stratiform showers after 06z, before clearing out after 12z.
Winds will be generally light and variable through the period,
influenced heavily by shower or storm activity. Gusty westerly
winds will pick up tomorrow afternoon. VFR conditions will
prevail, but drops to MVFR will be possible under intense
storms. KASE/KRIL/KEGE will see periods of CIGS below ILS
breakpoints this evening with passing showers.

Precipitation has primarily ended across the forecast area. The
exception will be an area of showers moving northward over
Sweetwater County, impacting KRKS through 09Z. Ceilings will
lower at KBPI, KPNA and KCOD between 10Z and 13Z, dropping to
VLIFR/LIFR. Confidence is highest at KCOD, where these
conditions will occur from 13Z to 18Z. MVFR to marginal VFR
ceilings will be widespread across northern WY during this time.
Needless to say mountain obscurations over the northern
mountains will also be in place during this time.
VFR conditions will be in place by 19Z, as showers and
thunderstorms begin to develop over western portions of the
state (along and west of a KCOD to KRKS line). These showers and
storms will move eastward through the afternoon, as an area of
low pressure develops over eastern portions of the state. This
will lead to a broad area of showers to develop across areas
east of the Divide after 00Z. Confidence is highest at
KRIW/KLND at this time. MVFR ceilings will return over northern
portions by the end of the TAF period.

A rather tricky forecast for terminals with all flight category
rules on the table. Heavy thunderstorms are spreading east,
currently near KCYS and KLAR. Visibility drops down to 2SM
possible, wind gusts to 45 knots and CIGs reduced to 2 kft
possible. Shower and storm activity becomes more widespread as
it progresses into the NE Panhandle. Post storms a near
saturated surface layer and light winds will be favorable for
widespread fog for the NE Panhandle terminals. The window for
fog development is from around 9z to 16z. Conditions improve in
the mid to late morning, but another round of showers and
thunderstorms in the afternoon hours is expected to bring
similar forecast conditions as this evening.

northwest KS during the late afternoon and evening. Locations
north of Goodland are more likely (relatively speaking) to be
affected by storms. Medium confidence in thunderstorm timing
(~23-05Z), low confidence in thunderstorm coverage. Light winds,
a moist airmass and a clearing trend could lead to a period of
IFR-LIFR fog or stratus a few hours on either side of sunrise.
VFR conditions will otherwise prevail during the 18Z TAF period.

VFR flying conditions this TAF cycle for all terminals. Current
south to south-southwest winds in the 10-15 kt range will flip to
northerly as a cold front moves through southwest KS. Winds in the
wake of the front will be weak, sustained in the 5-10 kt range.
Thunderstorms are also possible across our area Saturday afternoon
into the overnight period, but spatiotemporal details will need to
be ironed out before confidence is sufficient to include TSRA
mention in the TAFs.

A couple of isolated showers have popped up and entered into
Oldham County...however they are not lasting very long. The HRRR
wants to bring a decaying small cluster of showers/storms into far
west TX during the overnight....but even if this solution is
correct they die off very quickly entering into the area. It is
doubtful they will make it to DHT.
VFR conditions will continue into Saturday as winds shift from
southerly to more west and west-southwest by afternoon with gusts
just over 20kt. The models want to develop most of the
thunderstorm activity on Saturday afternoon to the east and
southeast of Amarillo but a few storms may also move through the
OK Panhandle Saturday evening. Will continue to monitor for this
possibility in future updates.

Numerous showers and thunderstorms continue to progress eastward
across western NM reaching into portions of the Rio Grande Valley
this hour. Thunderstorm risk remains at KFMN and KGUP through 02Z
and 03Z, peaking into the Rio Grande Valley from KSAF to KABQ
mainly b/w 00Z to 04Z. A cluster of thunderstorms b/w KSRR, KROW,
and KATS will also remain thru the evening before diminishing to
leftover shower activity persisting well into the overnight
period. As conditions slowly clear overnight, patchy fog and mist
will be a risk to monitor over central and western NM, especially
closer to the AZ border. TAF amds may be necessary to address this
during near dawn Saturday morning. Otherwise, another less
widespread round of afternoon thunderstorms is forecast to favor
the Continental Divide pushing eastward into the Rio Grande
Valley again, as well as moving east off the east slopes of the
Sacramento Mts toward KROW.
