VFR through the TAF period with generally light winds. Should see
a gradual increase in mid-level cloud cover this afternoon, with a
few gusty showers/virga by mid/late afternoon. Main concern will
again be just variable/gusty winds with more than sufficient DCAPE
indicated by forecast soundings. There could be some additional
outflow later this evening if an organized convective cluster
manages to develop east/northeast of DEN later, though confidence
in that is fairly low at this time.
Drainage winds will prevail overnight, becoming light and variable
during the morning hours, with southeasterly winds then likely by
late morning into Sunday afternoon. Can`t rule out a few more
high-based showers tomorrow although coverage overall looks to be
pretty limited.

VFR conditions anticipated across the forecast area over the next 24
hours, including the three main TAF sites of KCOS, KPUB and KALS.
Very isolated convection expected over the higher terrain today,
mainly across the Pikes Peak region and along the southern CO
border. Main threat from any storms today will be gusty outflow
winds of 30-35 kts.
KCOS: Best chance for some thunderstorm effects, so included VCTS
from 23z-02z. If confidence builds may need to amend to add some
variable higher gusts.
KPUB: Guidance is indicating potential for a brief period of some
stronger northerly winds late, so included a TEMPO group for 05z-07z
for a 15 kt northerly push. May need to amend later to increase the
winds.
KALS: Maintained stronger west winds with gusts to around 20 kts
between 22z-02z.

West Slope. A few thin upper level clouds will work through, but
not ceilings are expected. Winds will pick up from the

period.

All terminals to be VFR through 18Z/Sunday. Convection begins over
the northwest mountains around 19Z-20Z/Saturday, and then progresses
eas-northeast through the afternoon. The best chance for
scattered showers and thunderstorms will be first at KCOD and
then KWRL between 20Z-24Z/Saturday. Gusty outflow wind 30-40kts
will be the primary hazard. Additional storms ignite over the
Bighorn Range and even the Uinta Mountains late in the day. The
strongest storms, with heavy rain and hail, will be across
Johnson County early Saturday evening. Any lingering convection
across central and southwest Wyoming will be high-based with a
dry lower atmosphere and moisture mainly confined above 500mb.
Outflow wind would also be the main hazard with any isolated
showers or storms in this region. Gusty west-southwest surface
wind 10-20kts develops across the western terminals by
20Z/Saturday where dry lower and mid levels will hamper
convection. These winds diminish around 02Z/Sunday.

Another round of scattered thunderstorms is expected to kick off
this afternoon. Storms will begin early afternoon in Wyoming,
with WY terminals clearing out after about 23z. Nebraska
terminals can expect storms nearby beginning around 22z near
KBFF and continuing through about 03 to 04z at KCDR, KAIA, and
KSNY. Today`s storms will have the potential to produce strong,
gusty, and erratic winds, isolated large hail, frequent
lightning, and torrential rainfall (producing brief IFR
conditions). Expect skies to clear late in the evening with
southerly winds taking over again Sunday morning.

Another TAF period full of storms and showers. KGLD, will see
winds favoring the southwest for the next couple of hours as the
showers and storms to the east pull in air from KGLD. Once
these storms dissolve, winds will favor the southeast. Gusts of
20-30 kts can be expected again today ahead of the storms this
evening. KMCK is on the east side of the line of showers, and
they may hold together long enough to impact the airport, likely
between 19-21Z. These showers are not overly impressive, but
brief MVFR or even IFR conditions cannot be ruled out as they
move overhead.
The main round of storms tonight may impact both TAF sites from
the west. These storms are not expected to be very organized and
may miss direct impacts on the TAF sites during the PROB30
times. If the storms do move overhead or near the sites, expect
heavy rain and lowering ceilings, potentially down to IFR, and
erratic, gusty winds up to 40-50 kts at max.
The showers and storms are expected to clear both sites around
or just before sunrise, but stratus or fog may move in behind
the storms. Currently, guidance is showing low MVFR ceilings and
minimal fog, but we should have better idea on this potential
for the 0Z TAFs.

In the very near term, note the convective SIGMET until about
19z fore areas east of KDDC. Will also include a VCSH in the HYS
TAF as that are of precipitation is waning. Any convective
chances beyond this appear becoming more and more isolated given
the HRRR trends into Tonight, and even though a Marginal severe
risk is in place coverage is expected not to begin until at
least about 4 am Sunday, and decaying storms are more likely to
be the rule. Meanwhile mid level clouds left over from last
nights convection will linger with a few showers at times

An upper level ridge of high pressure will start to build over
eastern Arizona and New Mexico, leading to fewer showers and
thunderstorms with hotter temperatures. The hot conditions will
lead to high density altitude readings that will pose poor
aircraft performance for some. A stray shower or storm cannot be
ruled out over southwestern New Mexico today with southeastern
(ROW, PRZ, CVN) and northeastern (RTN and CAO) areas being the
more likely candidates to observe isolated storms with very gusty
downburst winds during the late afternoon and early evening. A
weak surface boundary will enter northeastern New Mexico tonight
which will help trigger more gusty thunderstorms on Sunday.
