As expected, stratus has developed across the terminals over the
past couple of hours, and is expected to persist through at least
15z. There has been some reduced visibilities along with lower
ceilings (generally BKN004-006) closer to the Wyoming border, and
a couple of hours of IFR to perhaps LIFR conditions are possible
this morning before the stratus deck lifts and scatters out.
Convection is still expected to develop near 20-21z and spread
across the terminals through the afternoon hours. Some stronger
storms are still possible in the mid/late afternoon hours.
Additional showers or storms may redevelop this evening.
More uncertainty to the forecast by tonight/Thursday AM, with some
guidance hinting at stratus or fog redeveloping overnight. Did add
a mention of a FEW/SCT low clouds but didn`t have the confidence
to go with any lower prevailing conditions. We should see a return
to consistent VFR conditions sometime Thursday morning.

through this period. Drainage flow is currently taking hold with
northwesterly winds expected to develop around 18-19z. Following
this, drainage flow will occur once again around 04z.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions are settling in
across all terminals this morning. While VFR conditions will persist
across the majority of our TAF sites, particularly KBCE and KCDC
following 19z. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible near
these sites with gusty and erratic winds possible at and near the
terminals. Following sunset, VFR conditions will settle in across
all sites once again.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms are ongoing over northern
portions of the CWA this morning. These showers have pushed east past
KCOD and KWRL terminals, but will likely impact KBYG from 12Z to 15Z.
VLIFR to LIFR conditions are in place at KJAC and KCOD, with conditions
expected to improve at KJAC after sunrise and VFR conditions returning
by 16Z. LIFR to MVFR ceilings will remain in place across northern
portions throuygh 18Z/19Z. MVFR ceilings are expected to develop over
the Wind River Basin after sunrise, with VFR conditions returning by 17Z/18Z.
Showers and thunderstorms will redevelop over southern portions this
afternoon, impacting KRKS between 21Z and 01Z. Wind gusts around 25 kt
will also impact terminals west of the Divide, except KJAC. Clouds
will scatter out across the west this afternoon, with SKC skies in place
for most areas by sunset this evening. Lingering SCT-BKN FL040 clouds over
portions of Johnson/Natron counties through the TAF period.

Low CIGs and areas of fog/mist have moved in over most of the
High Plains, leading to MVFR to IFR conditions this morning at
all terminals east of the Laramie range. Occasional LIFR will
also continue for the next few hours at KCYS and KSNY. In
addition, showers will produce areas of moderate rainfall near
KCDR and KAIA for a few more hours. CIGs may temporarily lift
during periods of rainfall. Expect gradual improvement to MVFR
by mid morning, and VFR by early afternoon as CIGs lift and
break up.
Attention shifts back to thunderstorms for the afternoon hours
with several rounds of storms expected across the area. The
highest probability for storms is at KCYS and KLAR, but all
terminals will have the potential to see aviation impacts due to
thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The strongest storms
will be between about 21z and 03z. Heavy rainfall, gusty/erratic
winds, lightning, and hail are all possible. Expect this
activity to clear out late in the evening, before low CIGs surge
in again towards Thursday morning.

terminal: IFR ceilings of 400 to 700 FT AGL will continue this

afternoon. Ceilings will increase further to 3000 to 5000 FT AGL
before falling to 1500 FT AGL overnight tonight. Some patchy

For KGLD & KMCK... Rough aviation conditions are forecast for
most of the period. Ceilings are forecast to remain around
400-900ft for a majority of the morning between 12-18Z, with
some slight improvement to 1500-2500ft possible after 15Z.
Adding to the problems is that there are still some outflows
from overnight storms that may temporarily improve conditions,
only to have them degrade again shortly after.
Between 18Z and 01Z, there is a chance that the ceilings could
lift above 3000ft and VFR conditions prevail. Still may need to
watch for a pop up shower or storm and wind gusts could reach
20-30 kts from the south. After 01Z, storms are possible as
clusters develop west of the terminals and move east. The
ceilings are also forecast to lower back below 2000ft, with
ample moisture remaining in the area. Once storms pass, ceilings
should lower to around 500ft. Fog will also be possible, with
visibilities around 1-3SM.

Main focus this morning will be on chance for thunderstorms
today and early tonight followed by low clouds (IFR conditions)
spreading into southwest Kansas after midnight behind a cold
frontal passage.
A stalled surface boundary across southwest Kansas will be the
primary forcing mechanism for afternoon thunderstorms developing
after 2 PM. Short term models are coming into better agreement
that this boundary will likely be located south of Hays, between
Dodge City and Garden City, by late today. This results in a
30% chance of thunderstorms at these TAF sites this afternoon. A
higher chance (60-80%) of thunderstorms is expected across all
of southwest Kansas after 00Z Thursday. This is due to an upper
level trough exiting the Rockies and crossing western Kansas.
BUFR soundings, HREF ceiling probabilities, and LAMP guidance
all indicate VFR conditions today, with VFR ceilings developing
this afternoon (9000 to 15000ft AGL). Ceilings are expected to
lower to 2500 to 4000 ft AGL after 00Z Thursday. After 06Z there
is a greater than 60% chance of ceilings falling below 1000 ft
AGL as gusty north winds develop behind a cold frontal passage.

VFR conditions expected to prevail through 00Z Thursday for KDHT
and KGUY, 06Z Thursday for KAMA. During the overnight period
thunderstorm chances increase after 00Z Thu mainly across the
northern combined OK/TX Panhandle. Conditions from heavy rain and
even low clouds going into 12Z tomorrow may fall to IFR even LIFR
are times. Winds will should remain southerly until a
front/outflow boundary move in from the north along with the
thunderstorm activity bringing winds to the north to easterly.
Some of the storms may be strong to severe with torrential
rainfall.

Light winds and VFR conditions will prevail this morning. Storms
will develop over the high terrain of western and northern NM
around 18Z and increase in coverage through the afternoon. Storm
motion will be slow and erratic, driven mainly by outflow
boundaries. Gusts of 30 to 40 kts will be commonplace with these
outflow boundaries. A backdoor front will intrude from the
northeast around 00Z, surging south and westward overnight. Storms
may initiate along the boundary and continue past 06Z in the
northeast quadrant of the state. Gusty east winds (20 to 35 kts)
are likely at KABQ at the tail end of the TAF period from this
backdoor front as it surges through the gaps of the central
mountain chain.
