will bring northwest winds starting 14z-15z. A short period (less

the 20 to 30 knot range are expected the rest of the day, with
speeds decreasing and the direction becoming northeast after 21z.

For KCOS and KPUB..VFR conditions are expected at both TAF sites,
with speed shear likely for KCOS early Sunday morning for KCOS as
westerlies pick up above the surface inversion. A frontal boundary
will pass through both stations towards the end of the forecast
period, bringing in easterly to northeasterly winds through Sunday
evening.
For KALS..A low end chances for brief showers will remain possible
through overnight hours tonight into early Sunday morning, with MVFR
visibilities also possible through this timeframe. Mist and MVFR
ceilings will also be possible for Sunday morning, with improvement
and VFR conditions likely from around 14Z onwards. Gusty southwest
winds are expected for Sunday afternoon with continued mid and upper-
level cloud cover.

A line of showers and thunderstorms associated with a cold
currently along a line KRWL-KHVE is moving northwest to
southeast across the region at about 30kts. These storms are
producing brief periods of MVFR to IFR ceilings and visibilities
below ILS breakpoints. Look for this system to push into the
northern and central Colorado mountains by 12Z where the front
will stall out and the showers will diminish through the
morning, ending by about 18Z. There is a slight chance for an
isolated shower or thunderstorm between 18Z and 00Z over the
higher terrain with skies clearing this afternoon and evening.

.AVIATION...KSLC...Gusty southerly winds precede a cold front
passage this afternoon, in addition to some isolated showers that
have a 30% chance to impact the terminal. Winds will transition
northwesterly behind the frontal boundary, with gusts 30-35 kts. A
band of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms is also expected to
accompany the front, resulting in MVFR to brief IFR conditions due
to reductions in CIGS/VIS through around 02z. Expect winds and
precipitation to gradually wane after 02z through the remainder of
the TAF period.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Scattered thunderstorms will
continue to develop this afternoon and push east this evening.
Expect a line of rain and thunderstorms to develop along a cold
front around 23-01Z this afternoon extending from northern terminals
down to southern terminals. This line of rain and storms will
push east of all terminals by 05-06Z, lingering the longest at
KCDC and KSGU. As these rain showers and storms impact terminals
this afternoon and evening MVFR CIGS and down to IFR VIS is
possible at times. Strong to severe storms remain possible as
well. Conditions should slowly improve behind the cold front
overnight.
Ahead of the cold front wind will be breezy from the southwest,
especially at KCDC and KSGU. Behind the front wind will become
northwesterly this evening, but will quickly become light overnight
after 06Z.

As the weather system pushes through tonight so will a strong cold
front. Along this cold front scattered rain showers and isolated
storms will make their way from west to east across the area tonight
into Sunday morning. Most terminals will remain VFR through the TAF
period, excluding KCOD, KJAC, and KWRL. Chances are about 30% that
conditions will drop to MVFR/IFR at the aforementioned terminals,
thus PROB30 groups have been added for them. All rain will dissipate
or exit the area by 18Z Sunday.
The jet stream is strong overhead with this weather system, so that
means wind will continue to be breezy to strong tonight into Sunday.
Ahead of the cold front wind will be from the south/southwest and
behind it wind will be from the west/northwest. Wind will gradually
drop Sunday as the weather system and associated jet exit the area
to the east. Wind gusts will generally be in the 20-30 knot range
tonight into Sunday afternoon, with higher gusts around 40 knots
possible at KRKS and KCPR.

A strong cold front is beginning its trip across the area
currently. KRWL is on the only terminal expected to receive
precipitation along the front. Showers with some embedded
thunder are expected nearby for the next 2-3 hours or so, after
which time there is a 30% chance for a brief period of snow
which could lead to a VIS/CIG drop to MVFR. IFR cannot be ruled
out. Expect drier air to work in after 10z.
Further east, shallow fog is developing in the NE panhandle.
KSNY has improved to VFR, and could hold on to light westerly
winds long enough to maintain VFR, but a dip back to IFR over
the next few hours is certainly possible. KAIA (and later, KBFF)
are expected to be in IFR to LIFR more consistently. All should
quickly improve with the frontal passage between 10 and 13z.
Attention shifts to strong winds for Sunday. Marginal LLWS is
possible through early Sunday morning ahead of the surface
front. Expect westerly winds to jump up quickly along the front.
Speeds will increase around 15z across the board with widespread
gusts of 35 to 45 knots through early afternoon. Winds will
begin to weaken mid-afternoon, and then drop off quickly around
00z.

A cold front will move into western Nebraska after 12Z and move
quickly east by early afternoon. Northwest winds will gust to
28KT at KVTN 15Z-00Z and 21KT at KLBF 16Z-00Z. Winds quickly
decouple to below 10KT by 01Z Monday.

VFR conditions are anticipated over the KGLD and KMCK terminals
through the 06Z TAF period. Mostly clear to clear conditions are
anticipated through roughly 02-04Z over the terminals before we
begin to see an increase to FEW at the end of the period. As a
cold front progresses across the High Plains, wind are expected
to shift from the south/souht-southwest to the northwest around
14-16Z over both terminals and out of the north between 21-23Z.
Current breezy conditions with gusts of 25-35 kts will decrease
over the terminals by 10Z this morning and return with gusts of
25-30 kts possible behind the frontal passage. During the late
evening hours after 03Z, winds should become more northeasterly
and decrease to ~5-10 kts over the terminals.
In addition to the breezy surface winds, the KMCK terminal will
experience LLWS around 200 ft out of the south-southwest at
45-50 kts through ~10Z due to a low-level jet moving over the
area.

Increased subtropical moisture is keeping showers going over
portions of northern and central New Mexico. While much of the
activity will tend to favor southwestern to south central New
Mexico later this evening, another band of showers is modeled to
develop in the early morning hours Sunday across west central to
central areas of the state, including KGUP, KAEG, KABQ, and KSAF.
This will spread lower MVFR ceilings into more of western and
central New Mexico before and through the post dawn hours Sunday
with periods of reduced visibility in light to moderate rain.
Showers will tend to dwindle through the late morning, refocusing
farther south into Sunday afternoon, including near KROW, KSRR,
and KONM.
