.DISCUSSION...
Scattered showers and thunderstorms brought briefly heavy
rainfall to portions of the western Champlain Valley yesterday,
with 24 hour amounts ranging from a tenth to almost half an inch.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected again
today. A few isolated showers will develop from now through mid-
afternoon, but precipitation chances decrease towards the late
afternoon by 5PM. Current radar shows a few showers already
bubbling up around the Elizabethtown area with some producing
lightning. Showers will push south of the Elizabethtown area
thereafter as a cold front crosses the region. Overall rainfall
totals through today will mainly be around a tenth to two-tenths
of an inch, but locally higher amounts are possible since
thunderstorms will be capable of producing periods of heavy
rainfall. Winds will remain out of the south prior to the frontal
passage, generally 6 to 12 mph, but they will turn to the west by
late afternoon after the front moves through. Thunderstorms will
also be capable of producing gusty winds. Once showers end late
this afternoon, a period of dry but seasonably hot weather is
expected through mid week. Minimum relative humidity values will
be around 50 percent Tuesday afternoon, with nighttime recovery to
around 80 percent.
