.DISCUSSION...

Today through Sunday...

Through Friday, the upper level pattern will be mostly zonal with
occasional weak ridging building in between shortwaves in the
flow. This pattern will bring occasional rounds of light
precipitation and breezy conditions to the region.

The first round of precip arrives Tuesday, with the best chance
(30-50%) limited to the western mountains and foothills. Any
precip with this system is expected to be light, with a less than
15% chance of more than 0.1" of rain outside of the mountains.
Above 8,500 ft in the Absaroka/Beartooth mountains, there is a 40%
chance of at least a couple inches of snow.

Weak ridging builds in Wednesday, keeping conditions mostly dry
for the daytime hours. Then, a pattern favorable for stronger gap
winds sets up late Wednesday into Thursday. At this time, winds
are not expected to be as strong as the event over last weekend,
but this will be something to watch.

Another shortwave moves through late Wednesday into Thursday, but
precip is once again mostly limited to the western mountains and
foothills. Snow levels will fall a little lower, to around 7,000
ft by Thursday morning, but accumulations will still be light.
Currently, there is a 40% chance for at least a couple inches of
snow above 8,000 ft.

Late Friday into Saturday, the best chance for more widespread
precip arrives, although totals still remain light. Currently,
there is a 10-30% chance of at least 0.1" outside of the
mountains, a 40% chance over the Bighorn mountains, and a 50%
chance of a couple inches of snow above 7,000 ft in the
Absaroka/Beartooth mountains. Breezy conditions will also
accompany this system, with widespread gusts currently expected
around 20-35 mph.

Highs today will be mostly in the 50s. Tuesday through Thursday,
highs will be slightly warmer, mostly in the mid 50s to low 60s.
Temperatures then trend cooler into the weekend, with highs
expected in the mid 40s to low 50s Saturday. Upper level ridging
then builds in for Sunday, warming temperatures back into mostly
50s. Archer
