.DISCUSSION...
Today through Friday...
A cold front will move through the region this morning. The latest
HiRes models are showing a few showers developing north and east
of Billings before sunrise. Precipitation totals are not expected
to be high, with up to a few hundredths of an inch forecast.
Otherwise, breezy winds from the northwest will accompany the
front through this morning. Winds gusting in the teens and 20s
(greatest in southeastern Montana) mph will continue through much
of the afternoon. Temperatures will cool a bit today, with highs
forecast to be in the 60s to low 70sF.
Otherwise, ridging will dominate the forecast through next week.
This will bring above normal temperatures and dry conditions. High
temperatures will be in the 70s to low 80s Sunday and 80s to near
90F on Monday. The latest probability for a high temperature of at
least 90F on Monday is 25-50% (greatest in the river valleys
south and east of Billings). A few climate sites may approach
their single day record highs, so stay tuned!
Another cold front looks to drop through on Tuesday, bringing
temperatures back into 70s and low 80sF for the rest of the week.
Given the warm temperatures over the coming week, expect strong
afternoon mixing to produce breezy to locally windy conditions at
times during the warmest part of each afternoon.
The combination of warm, dry, and breezy conditions will bring
periods of elevated fire weather conditions through next week.
Will need to use extra caution to prevent grass fires until
a cooler and wetter weather pattern develops.
