Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central South Carolina
and East Central Georgia
National Weather Service Columbia SC
220 PM EDT Tue Sep 24 2024

.DISCUSSION...

The upper ridge will weaken a bit today and this combined with
abundant low level moisture and a destabilizing atmosphere should
yield scattered convection across the Midlands, shifting the focus
to the western and northern Midlands this evening. Scattered
convection continues on Wednesday across the western Midlands as a
frontal boundary approaches from the west. Increasing confidence
in impacts from heavy rain as a potential tropical system moves
into the southeastern US by Thur/Fri as a hurricane. Right now,
heavy rainfall and gusty winds look to be the primary concerns
with that system. A risk for showers and storms is still expected
over the weekend.

Tonight: Patchy fog is unlikely outside of fog prone locations.
