471 FXUS61 KCLE 290748 AFDCLE Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Cleveland OH 348 AM EDT Fri Aug 29 2025 .SYNOPSIS... High pressure builds across the Great Lakes region on Friday and will persist through early next week. Next cold front arrives mid to late week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/... Upper level low slowly meanders from southern Quebec into northern Maine during the near term with a cold front pretty much clear of the eastern zones of the CWA. Bulk of the showers/storms are finished for the overnight less a few isolated post frontal showers over NW PA/NE OH. This cold front is a reinforcement of the cooler airmass that has been dominating the sensible weather for the region for several days now as northerly flow keeps the region below normal. High pressure will be building into the southern Great Lakes in the wake of this cold front. Despite weak PVA aloft tonight, the forecast will be dry through Saturday. High temperatures today likely to be in the 60s for the large majority of the CWA, with only the far southwestern zones poised to reach the 70F mark. Tonight will be the coldest night of the 7 day forecast with widespread 40s and hanging onto the 50s along the immediate lakeshore areas. Slight improvement from airmass modification/insolation for Saturday with upper 60s to lower 70s. && .SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... Quiet weather in the near term portion of the forecast with high pressure continuing to control the conditions across the region. Expecting only very modest 500mb height and 850mb temperature recoveries, but the solar radiation persists and temperatures slowly climb into the upper 70s by Monday. Dry. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Decaying upper trough axis moving from the lower Mississippi Valley into the middle Ohio Valley along with a weakening surface low will bring the next chances for rain across the area Wednesday into Wednesday night. In the meantime, yet another closed upper low will dive southward through the Canadian Prairies into northern plains region with the next vigorous cold front charging through Thursday, signaling another cool down for the CWA. && .AVIATION /06Z Friday THROUGH Tuesday/... Showers and mist continue to move east through eastern Ohio bringing ceilings down to MVFR and LIFR conditions. As the front moves east, the showers should end and ceilings will rise. Behind the front, there will be VFR conditions for the majority of the TAF period. There is potential in scattered MVFR conditions overnight across western Ohio and the inland terminals. Can`t rule out any patchy fog across the inland terminals from KMFD, but confidence is low in any impact to TAF sites. Any non-VFR conditions should clear out by the morning around 12Z. High pressure will build in throughout the day on Friday with little impacts to terminals expected. Winds across the region will be light over night around 5 knots and predominately out of the north. There will be a slight increase during the day Friday with winds 5-10 knots before becoming light and variable after sunset. Outlook...Non-VFR possible in areas of fog and low stratus Friday night into early Saturday. && .MARINE... The Small Craft Advisory and Beach Hazards have been extended until 7AM this morning as winds and waves have stayed elevated. Afterwards, there will be choppy conditions across Lake Erie through Friday morning with a cold front departs to the east. Waves will be 10-15 knots across from the Islands eastward and around 10 knots to the west of the Islands. There will be low chance of waterspouts from Conneaut eastward Friday afternoon into the evening. High pressure will build in throughout today with winds and waves diminishing to around 10 knots out of the north across the lake. Through the weekend, winds will be fairly light and variable at less than 10 knots. By Monday morning, high pressure will build off to the east of the region and winds will become predominately out of the east across the lake at less than 10 knots. && .CLE WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
