808 FXUS63 KDDC 020400 AFDDDC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Dodge City KS 1100 PM CDT Mon Sep 1 2025 ...Updated Aviation... .KEY MESSAGES... - Widespread low stratus clouds will be replaced by a beautiful Tuesday afternoon with sunshine, mild temperatures and light north winds. - Temporarily much warmer Wednesday ahead of a cold front, with many locations warming into the lower 90s. - A cold front Wednesday evening will bring cooler temperatures Thursday. - A much stronger cold front is scheduled Friday morning, with Friday afternoon temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s. - Rainfall with the cold fronts will be very limited, and most of Southwest Kansas will be dry this week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 318 PM CDT Mon Sep 1 2025 After the thunderstorms end this evening along a weak cold front, the next weather maker will pass Wednesday evening in the form of a weak cold front. There are small chances for t-storms across southern sections ahead of the front. Expect warmer highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s ahead of the front Wednesday. A stronger cold front will pass Thursday night as a deep upper level trough amplifies over the northern plains and Great Lakes. There are small chances for showers and t-storms along and just behind the front into early Friday. In the wake of the front, expect much cooler weather on Friday, with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s. Surface high pressure is expected to build across the central plains for Saturday and Sunday, leading to pleasant highs in the mid to upper 70s. Some of the ensemble clusters indicate moisture advection developing in the wake of surface high pressure, along with light west-northwest flow at mid and high levels. This would promote weak surface troughing and chances for showers and t-storms for Sunday into Monday. This will likely not be a widespread heavy rain event as the ensemble means have 20% or less chance of 1" or greater of rain. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 1100 PM CDT Mon Sep 1 2025 Nighttime microphysics satellite imagery depicts widespread stratus across south central Nebraska and northern Kansas. High confidence this stratus will spread southwest into SW KS through Tuesday morning, with IFR ceilings at HYS/DDC 09-15z Tue. Included MVFR stratus at GCK around 12z Tue, but kept stratus out of the LBL terminal as model consensus suggests. Light north winds will prevail through this period, trending light and variable after 00z Wed. && .DDC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ DISCUSSION...Finch AVIATION...Turner
