.DISCUSSION...
Water vapor satellite imagery and RAP upper air analysis reveal a
shortwave trough is passing overhead southwest KS, which has been
the impetus for scattered showers and weak thunderstorms across
extreme southwest KS and the OK panhandle this afternoon. Radar
trends indicate this activity is decaying, likely failing to reach
Garden City. Otherwise, surface low pressure spread out across the
northwestern plains is yielding south to southeast winds
throughout our area, currently sustained in the 10-20 mph range
with gusts up to 30 mph. These winds will persist through sunset,
followed by weakening to 5-10 mph overnight roughly out of the
south-southeast. Tomorrow morning after sunrise, winds will begin
to restrengthen out of the southeast into the 10-15 mph range
gusting to 25 mph by mid-afternoon. With respect to temperatures
and humidity, overcast skies and a decreasing sun angle will
result in temperatures decreasing and humidity increasing through
the evening and overnight period. Tomorrow morning, temperatures
will rapidly increase from the upper 50s/low 60s at sunrise to
near 90 at peak heating. Minimum relative humidity tomorrow
afternoon near Garden City will be in the 30-35% range.
