...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 06/16/25 TORNADO EVENT - INITIAL ISSUANCE...


This is the first and is a preliminary summary of two tornadoes
that moved through Cass and Crow Wing Counties on June 16, 2025. As
more data, imagery, reports and observations are made available these
initial and preliminary findings are subject to change.

Two tornadoes impacted Cass and Crow Wing counties during the late
afternoon and early evening of June 16th 2025. NWS Duluth, assisted by
NWS Chanhassen/Twin Cities, conducted damage surveys throughout the day on
Tuesday, June 17th, in coordination with Cass and Crow Wing county
Emergency Management.

.TORNADO 1 OR CASINO TO GULL LAKE TORNADO...

Start location:         Near Casino, MN in Cass County

End date:               June 16, 2025
End time:               4:43 PM CDT
End location:           East shoreline of Gull Lake in Crow Wing County

The first tornado touched down near Casino, Minnesota, in Cass
County at 421 pm CDT. This tornado had a path length of 11.5
miles, with a maximum width of 400 yards. The tornado tracked
northeast towards Hardy Lake, before tracking east to the
southeast corner of Agate Lake before crossing Gull Lake. The
tornado lifted in Crow Wing County just west of Highway 371
between Love Lake and Round Lake at 443 pm CDT. The tornado was
rated an EF-1, with estimated maximum winds of 100 mph based upon
the damage that was found.

Start location:         Near Merrifield, MN in Crow Wing County

End location:           Near Ironton, MN

The second tornado touched down in Crow Wing County near Moody Lake,
just to the north of North Long Lake at 446 pm CDT. This tornado had
a path length of 10.9 miles, with a maximum width of 900 yards. The
tornado tracked northeast to near Mollie Lake north of Merrifield,
then east passing between Fawn Lake and Spider Lake. The tornado
crossed the Mississippi River, lifting at 512 pm CDT near Miner`s
Mountain on the Mahnomen, Alstead and Arco Mine Lake Chain just west
of Ironton and Crosby. The tornado was rated an EF-1, with estimated
maximum winds of 100 mph based upon the damage that was found.

Tornadoes into the following categories.

EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph
EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph
EF2...Strong....111 to 135 mph
EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph
EF4...Violent...166 To 200 mph
EF5...Violent...>200 mph
