The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Eastern Dallas County in central Iowa...
Polk County in central Iowa...
* Until 1230 AM CDT Wednesday.
* At 629 PM CDT, trained weather spotters reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches
of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches
are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already
occurring.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Trained spotters reported.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive,
Altoona, Pleasant Hill, Grimes, Windsor Heights, Carlisle,
Bondurant, Polk City, Saylorville, Mitchellville, Adventureland
Amusement Park, Iowa State Fairgrounds and Prairie Meadows.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 80 between mile markers 121 and 149. Interstate 235 near
mile marker 1...and between mile markers 10 and 14...and between mile
markers 2 and 9. Interstate 35 between mile markers 100 and 102...and
between mile markers 68 and 99.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
