.DISCUSSION...
Elevated fire weather conditions are expected today as winds
increase out of the south, with gusts up to 30-40 mph, highest
northwest, paired with temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s
and minimum RH values in the 30s. The primary concern will be in
cropland as fields are very dry, with less impact on grassland
given partner feedback suggesting that these fuels are less dry.
An SPS has been issued across central Iowa, highlighting the
elevated fire weather risk this afternoon to early evening for
cropland. Extra care will be needed to avoid equipment sparks that
would lead to fire starts and easy spread given favorable
conditions. Burning is not recommended until conditions improve.
Winds will be breezy once again Sunday, though slightly less with
gusts up to 30+ mph, along with slightly higher min RH values in
the upper 30s to low 40s and temperatures in the 80s. Elevated
fire danger in cropland will be a concern again Sunday as a result,
though more limited, especially as showers and storms become more
likely into the late afternoon to evening with the arrival of a
cold front.
