A few thunderstorms have developed along the Mississippi River valley, but otherwise skies are mostly clear. Across most of the state winds are from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph and temperatures remain in the upper 70s to lower 80s at this hour. However, a weak frontal boundary has entered northwest Iowa and behind the front winds are from the northwest around 10 mph and temperatures are in the mid 70s. Isolated thunderstorms will remain possible this morning, mainly over southern and eastern Iowa, before departing. It will be another hot and humid day, with temperatures climbing into the 90s in most areas and Heat Index values approaching 100 degrees in central and southern sections. Renewed thunderstorm development is forecast from this afternoon into tonight, especially over the southern two thirds of Iowa, and severe weather will be possible during this time. Tonight and beyond: Once storms move out of Iowa tonight, we will have a respite from the recent hot and active weather, with dry conditions forecast by Wednesday and afternoon high temperatures only in the upper 70s to mid 80s. Thursday will begin similarly quiet and pleasant, but shower and thunderstorm chances then return to the forecast from late Thursday through Friday. By next weekend, however, dry and pleasant weather will return with high temperatures Saturday and Sunday ranging in the mid 70s to lower 80s and less humid conditions anticipated. $$
