Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
253 AM CDT Mon Jun 17 2024

Today:

Warm and muggy conditions have held firm overnight as temperatures
have only fallen into the 70s as of the early morning hours. These
conditions have helped fuel another round of thunderstorm activity,
mainly over portions of northwest into north central Iowa. A few
stronger wind gusts have been noted with this activity, but the
severe weather threat has been on the lower end so far.

Chances for storms will persist through the day over portions of
northern Iowa, whereas the rest of the area will see another day of
hot and humid conditions with breezy south winds pushing highs into
the 90s and peak heat index values to near 100 in a few areas.

Tonight and Beyond:

An active weather pattern continues through the rest of the week.
Widespread showers and storms are likely Tuesday and into Wednesday
as a frontal boundary noses into the state. This will lead to a
brief reprieve from the heat on Wednesday before the heat builds
back in over the latter half of the week. Periodic chances for
showers and storms remain in the forecast through the weekend,
although the most likely time periods and potential severe weather
threat remains uncertain at this time.
