.KEY MESSAGES...

- A frontal boundary nearby will result in occasional chances

will be on the light side with most areas under a tenth.

- Below normal temperatures return for the end of the week. A
benign weather pattern should translate into a mainly dry
  Labor Day weekend.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Issued at 200 PM CDT Wed Aug 27 2025

As of early this afternoon, a small area of light rain was
progressing toward the east-southeast and entering central
portions of the outlook area. Most locations will only receive
trace amounts to a few hundredths of rainfall with this
activity, which will gradually diminish as it shifts into the
east-central counties later this afternoon. The lightning threat
is very minimal due to limited MUCAPE (below 200 J/kg) and
there have been no lightning flashes detected locally by the
GOES GLM so far today.

Another round of scattered showers and possibly a few embedded
or isolated storms are possible late tonight into early Thursday
morning, favored north and east of the Quad Cities (20-50%).
This activity will be associated with continued low-level warm
air advection (~850mb) and a weak backdoor cold front beginning
to slide in from the ENE. There is some potential for isolated
redevelopment mainly along/north of I-80 Thursday afternoon, but
impacts look to be minimal due to low coverage (10-20%). Expect
warmer conditions on Thursday with highs in the upper 70s to
lower 80s for most locations.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Issued at 200 PM CDT Wed Aug 27 2025

An upper trough is forecast to remain over the Northeast U.S.
and Eastern Canada through the upcoming weekend, with surface
high pressure setting up over the Great Lakes region. This will
keep eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois mostly dry with near to
slightly below normal temperatures. NBM highs are in the 70s to
near 80 degrees on average. A shortwave trough may approach the
area later Monday night into Tuesday, bringing with it a chance
for scattered showers and storms.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z THURSDAY/...
Issued at 1138 CDT Wed Aug 27 2025

Scattered showers are possible through the early to mid
afternoon, with the highest chances at CID and DBQ. Ceilings
look to remain at VFR (bottoming out between 4000-6000 ft AGL)
and conditions should dry out for late afternoon into this
evening. Expect light winds through the TAF period, along with
prevailing VFR. Isolated showers may redevelop late tonight,
mainly near DBQ, but did not include in the TAFs yet due to low
confidence on coverage.
