Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0244 PM CDT Wed Oct 08 2025

Valid 091200Z - 101200Z

...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

...Great Basin...
An upper-level low along Pacific Northwest coast will promote a
broad southwesterly flow across much of the West. South to southwest
winds of 15-25 mph across much of NV, and southern ID will develop
in response to daytime boundary layer mixing. However, a rapid
northward surge of low-level moisture from the Desert Southwest will
quickly suppress fire weather concerns across the southern Great
Basin through the day. A narrow corridor of wind/RH alignment is
still possible across portions of western NV, but continued
northwest advancement of low-level moisture into the state and
largely unreceptive fuels will mitigate a broader and longer
duration fire weather threat. Otherwise, no changes to previous
forecast (see below).

...Synopsis...
Upper ridging will persist across the central and southern CONUS as
an upper trough lingers along the West Coast and a mid-level trough
amplifies over the Upper Mississippi Valley tomorrow (Thursday).
Surface high pressure east of the Mississippi River will encourage
generally dry conditions, but with a weak surface wind field.
Meanwhile, modest moisture return across the Upper Mississippi
Valley will precede the aforementioned upper trough. Finally,
isolated to potentially scattered thunderstorms are likely across
the southwestern quadrant of the U.S. Overall, generally quiescent
fire weather conditions are expected across the CONUS tomorrow
(Thursday).
