Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0153 PM CDT Mon Sep 21 2026

Valid 221200Z - 231200Z

...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

Ahead of an approaching upper trough currently in the eastern
Pacific, stronger southwest winds will overspread the Pacific
Northwest on Day 2/Tuesday. As a cold front passes through the
Columbia Basin on Tuesday morning/afternoon, high temperatures will
be about 5-10 degrees cooler amid 25-35% RH values. Given the
favorable orientation of stronger upper-level winds, wind gusts of
up to 35 mph are possible in terrain-favored areas; however, a
marginal fuelscape limits a broader fire weather threat. The rest of
the forecast remains on track, please see the previous discussion
for more information.

...Synopsis...
Fire weather concerns will remain low across the CONUS on
D2/Tuesday. A trough will bring scattered thunderstorms across
portions of the Great Basin. Though these thunderstorms are expected
to be mainly wet, a few pockets of marginally receptive fuels and
ERCs ranging from the 50-70th percentile across portions of Nevada
may allow for lightning ignition.

Elsewhere, a cold front will continue to stretch across the far
southern Plains bringing shower and thunderstorm activity across
portions of western and south-central Texas. Mid-level heights will
begin to rise again across the central US with warming temperatures
but generally light winds.
