The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0800 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Hurricane Genevieve is centered near 18.4N 118.4W at 29/0900 UTC, moving west-northwest at 8 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 956 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 105 kt with gusts to 130 kt. Peak seas are near 35 ft, or 11 m. Numerous moderate convection is within 120 nm of the center, with numerous moderate convection also extending from 12N to 16N between 112W and 116W. Genevieve is moving toward the west- northwest, and this general motion with a slight increase in forward speed is expected during the next few days. Genevieve is now a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir- Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible over the next day or so, and a weakening trend should begin thereafter. Swells generated by Genevieve are affecting portions of the Baja California Peninsula and will reach Southern California later today. These swells are likely to persist for a few more days, and could cause life- threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office. Please read the latest HIGH SEAS FORECAST issued by the National Hurricane Center at website - https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFEP2.shtml and the latest Genevieve NHC Forecast/Advisory and Public Advisory at www.hurricanes.gov for more details. ...TROPICAL WAVES... A tropical wave is along 87W, extending southward from the Gulf of Honduras, across Honduras and Nicaragua, and into the far eastern Pacific to around 06N. This wave is moving W at around 10 kt. Scattered moderate convection has developed just offshore El Salvador in association with this wave. A tropical wave is along 107W, from 05N to 16N, moving W at around 5 kt. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is noted from 06N to 16N between 106W and 109W. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 10N81W to 06N93W to 09N107W. The ITCZ has become defined from 10N130W to 08N140W. Numerous moderate to isolated strong convection is noted from 01N to 17N between 91W and 103W. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Please refer to the Special Features section for information on Hurricane Genevieve with tropical storm force or greater winds now just beyond the offshore waters. Please refer to the Tropical Waves and Monsoon Trough/ITCZ sections above for information about additional convection in the region. Away from the impacts of Genevieve, moderate to locally fresh NW winds associated with high pressure building in from the northwest are impacting waters N and W of Guadalupe Island. This same high is leading to moderate to locally fresh winds just offshore Cabo San Lucas and in portions of the far southern Gulf of California. Elsewhere, moderate or weaker winds prevail. Seas are slight in the Gulf of California and moderate in the remaining offshore waters. For the forecast, Hurricane Genevieve is near 18.4N 118.4W at 2 AM PDT, and is moving west-northwest at 8 kt. Maximum sustained winds are 105 kt with gusts to 130 kt, and the minimum central pressure is 956 mb. Genevieve will move to 18.8N 119.8W this afternoon, 19.5N 122.0W Thu morning, 20.2N 124.4W Thu afternoon, and 21.0N 127.0W Fri morning. Genevieve will weaken to a tropical storm near 21.8N 129.5W Fri afternoon, then be near 22.5N 132.3W Sat morning. Genevieve will become post-tropical as it moves to well west of Baja California Sur early Sun. Associated seas of rough or greater will finally subside across the offshore waters of Baja California Thu. Elsewhere, fresh to locally strong northerly winds are likely in the Gulf of Tehunatepec Thu and Fri nights. Otherwise, areas of fresh mainly westerly gap winds are expected through tonight nearshore Baja California as high pressure builds southward to the west of the Baja California Peninsula. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Please refer to the Monsoon Trough/ITCZ and Tropical Wave sections above for information about convection in the region. High pressure northeast of the area is forcing fresh easterly gap winds and seas of 5 to 7 ft across the Gulf of Papagayo region, with moderate northerly gap winds in the Gulf of Panama. Elsewhere, light to gentle winds and moderate seas prevail. For the forecast, fresh to strong NE to E gap winds will pulse across the Papagayo region tonight through the weekend, with occasionally rough seas. Pulsing moderate to locally fresh N winds are expected in the Gulf of Panama tonight. Southerly winds may freshen offshore southern Colombia and from Ecuador to the Galapagos Islands Thu night and Fri. Moderate or weaker winds and moderate seas in SW swell are expected across the remainder of the waters through the period. ...REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Please refer to the Special Features section for information on Major Hurricane Genevieve. For waters not being impacted by Hurricane Genevieve, 1025 mb high pressure centered near 33N140W dominates. The pressure pattern between the high and Genevieve is supporting moderate to fresh NE trades from offshore southern California around the periphery of the ridge including from 20N to 30N and west of 120W, and from 10N to 20N and west of 130W. Moderate to locally fresh SE winds are found south of 07N and west of 115W as well as S of the Equator and W of 105W. Moderate or weaker winds are elsewhere. Moderate seas dominate the waters away from Genevieve. For the forecast, Hurricane Genevieve will move to 18.8N 119.8W this afternoon, 19.5N 122.0W Thu morning, 20.2N 124.4W Thu afternoon, and 21.0N 127.0W Fri morning. Genevieve will weaken to a tropical storm near 21.8N 129.5W Fri afternoon, then be near 22.5N 132.3W Sat morning. Away from Genevieve, little change in marine conditions is forecast across the remainder of the waters into next weekend. Looking ahead, fresh and rough northerly swell off California may push southward into the waters off Baja California Norte north of 27N and east of 130W by the end of this weekend into early next week. $$ Konarik
