the western Hill Country, southern Edwards Plateau, and Rio

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 1248 AM CDT Wed Oct 8 2025

A weak cold front will move into the region today, with drier air
filtering into the Hill Country, I-35 corridor, and inland
Coastal Plains. Higher moisture values will remain pooled today
from the western Hill Country, southern Edwards Plateau, and Rio
Grande, southward into South Texas. HREF members are consistent
with isolated shower development through this region this
afternoon. The drier air pushes farther south, through the area,
on Thursday. Warm conditions continue, with high temperatures in
the upper 80s to mid 90s and low temperatures in the mid 60s to
low 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 1248 AM CDT Wed Oct 8 2025

Ridging aloft will remain over the region Friday through the
weekend. In the lower levels, expanding high pressure to the
northeast allows even drier air to backdoor into the region, with
precipitable water values of only 0.7-1.1 inches indicated Friday
and Saturday. Lower dew points and mostly clear skies will allow
for large diurnal swings in temperatures Friday through Sunday.
Low temperatures Saturday are forecast to dip into the 50s for
many areas, outside of the urban San Antonio and Austin metro
areas and Rio Grande where lows in the lower 60s are forecast.
Highs Saturday are forecast to rebound to a warm upper 80s to
lower 90s, but low relative humidity.

Southerly low level flow resumes Sunday, and low level moisture
is forecast to gradually increase especially Sunday night into
Monday. This should result in increasing humidity and smaller
diurnal wings in temperatures Monday and Tuesday.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 533 AM CDT Wed Oct 8 2025

VFR flight conditions will prevail at the area TAF sites with
pockets of mid to high level clouds in the area. A few low clouds
may reach SAT/SSF/DRT but MVFR conditions are expected to remain
confined farther to the south. Isolated showers could develop over
the Southern Edwards Plateau and along the Rio Grande from this
afternoon into this evening. DRT will feature VCSH for a period of
time later today as a result. Elsewhere, conditions remain rain
free with afternoon fair mid-level cumulus. Winds will become
mainly northeasterly at AUS/SAT/SSF and top out in the 10 to 12 kt
range from mid-morning through the afternoon. Otherwise, winds
remain light and variable in direction at times.
