.KEY MESSAGES...

- Isolated thunderstorms could produce locally heavy rain today
from the Southern Edwards Plateau to the Coastal Plains

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 101 AM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025

Convection from Friday evening has diminished with the loss of
daytime heating. Radar estimates show most of the rain fell across
the southern Edwards Plateau and Hill Country, with some isolated
totals farther east into the Interstate 35 corridor north of San
Marcos.

For today, we expect to see more scattered afternoon convection
develop across the region with models tending to show higher coverage
of showers and storms across the southern Edwards Plateau, western
Hill Country, I-35 corridor near and south of Austin and coastal
plains. Similar to yesterday, some locally heavy rainfall can be
expected, with a quick 1-2 inches possible given the amount of
moisture and weak steering flow. With moisture levels a little higher
over the coastal plains, some near 3" totals are possible here. Some
locally gusty winds can also be expected in an near the stronger
storms. While a gradual decrease in the coverage of convection is
expected with the loss of daytime heating, some isolated activity may
continue across the coastal plains through the late evening.

The subtropical ridge axis briefly builds in from the west on Sunday
and this should keep most of the region dry. The exception being
across the coastal plains into the Highway 77 corridor where some
isolated late afternoon convection is possible. High temperatures for
both Saturday and Sunday will range from the mid 90s to near 103
degrees along with overnight lows in the 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 101 AM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025

Models suggest an upper level disturbance embedded in the northwest
flow aloft will move into the region on Monday. This should help
produces another round of scattered afternoon showers and storms
mainly from the Hill Country eastward into the I-35 corridor (mainly
north of San Antonio) and the coastal plains. Increased clouds and
rain chances should keep highs down into the lower 90s across the
Hill Country, while lower 100s persist along the Rio Grande.

For the remainder of the forecast period, the subtropical ridge axis
centered over the desert southwest will keep the pattern dry for most
of south central Texas. The one exception will be over the coastal
plains where some isolated, afternoon storms will be possible as the
sea breeze moves inland. Temperatures will be close to normal for
early August.
