313 FXUS64 KEWX 270526 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 1226 AM CDT Mon Jul 27 2026 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 1216 AM CDT Mon Jul 27 2026 - Hot and dry weather is expected through the end of July. - Rising temperatures this week may lead to increasing heat risks. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Tuesday) Issued at 1216 AM CDT Mon Jul 27 2026 Water vapor imagery and upper air observations show the subtropical ridge commandeering our regional weather remains strong. Surface high over the Gulf will move slightly west today under weak easterly flow aloft. This brings a marginally more conducive wind direction for hotter temperatures. Thus, highs today are expected to be about 1-2 degrees warmer with peak heat indices in the 101 to 107 range over the Coastal and Rio Grande Plains and the I-35 corridor. Some cirrus may uneventfully cycle over the area as the ridge continues to spin about. No rain is forecast. Tuesday is expected be similarly hot and dry. Conditions both days may briefly reach Heat Advisory criteria for localized spots in the Coastal Plains, but at this time the lower coverage and longevity of higher heat for Monday and Tuesday suggests low confidence in Heat Advisory issuance for today or tomorrow. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Sunday) Issued at 1216 AM CDT Mon Jul 27 2026 Hot and rain-free weather continues through the week with the subtropical ridge staying near the area. Temperatures are forecast to steadily rise as the airmass warms, with highs entering the 100- 105 range in more widespread fashion by late week. Heat indices may climb more into the 105-110 range especially at lower elevations mid to late week. This could necessitate issuance of heat related products. Hot and dry conditions may continue into Saturday, but a shift in the weather pattern ushered by the ridging moving farther favors a change in conditions over South Central Texas this weekend. As the eastern periphery of the ridge lines up with the Plains, northerly flow will be favored aloft. This may bring a weak front or trough into our area this weekend, accompanied by rain chances and a potential cooldown to below average temperatures towards the start of August if the front remains intact. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1216 AM CDT Mon Jul 27 2026 All terminals are starting VFR. Our overall weather pattern has not changed significantly over the past 24 hours. We expect this will result in a repeat of low ceilings tonight even though none of the models are showing this. We have included MVFR ceilings in the Austin and San Antonio areas starting in the next few hours and lasting until late morning. DRT will remain VFR. All terminals will be VFR through the afternoon and evening. MVFR ceilings will redevelop after midnight Monday/Tuesday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
