853 FXUS64 KEWX 261816 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 1216 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Cool and dry for Thanksgiving Day. - A wetter weather pattern may return Friday night and continue into early next week. - Coldest temperatures of the season are expected Sunday into next week behind a strong cold front. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Thursday night) Issued at 1203 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 A re-enforcing cold front now sits south of the area with north to northeasterly wind across South Central Texas. Gusty morning wind continues to decrease this afternoon as the pressure gradient relaxes, with wind returning to under 10 mph this evening into the Thanksgiving holiday. Cold morning lows are expected in the Hill Country dropping into the upper 30s to around 40 degrees with lows from the low 40s to low 50s elsewhere. A few locations in the Hill Country could briefly drop to near or just below freezing as winds will be lightest over this area Thursday morning. Partly sunny skies and some light breezes will be seen for the holiday with pleasant afternoon highs in the 60s to around 70 degrees. Increased cloud cover Thursday night into Friday will lead to slightly warmer lows from the mid 40s to mid 50s. && .LONG TERM... (Friday through next Wednesday) Issued at 1203 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 A weak impulse moving across westerly mid-level flow will bring precipitation chances to our western counties Friday. This impulse moves east over the area Friday night into Saturday bringing rain chances to all of South Central Texas with activity expected to be scattered and mostly showers, though some rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out. Precipitation chances remain over the far eastern Hill County into the Coastal Plains for Saturday and Saturday night ahead of a strong cold front. With a bit more instability on Saturday, we have better chances of seeing showers and thunderstorms with the highest rain chances over the Coastal Plains where deeper moisture resides. Breezy northerly wind move in Sunday behind the front bringing colder temperatures back to the forecast through at least early next week. Lows early next week will be in the 30s to mid 40s with Tuesday morning looking like the coldest morning. Some freezing temperatures are in the forecast during this time. While Sunday will be drier behind the front, low rain chances return Monday into Tuesday with a passing shortwave and possibly some isentropic lift over the front. For our area, a cold rain seems the most likely scenario if we do see any precipitation early next week. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1203 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 VFR flight conditions prevail through the period with some increase in mid-level cloudiness tonight into Thursday morning. The breezy north to northeasterly flow will subside later in the afternoon through tonight.
