218 FXUS62 KFFC 261138 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 638 AM EST Mon Jan 26 2026 ...New 12Z Aviation Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 633 AM EST Mon Jan 26 2026 - An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for northeast Georgia through Monday morning due to lingering effects of the ice storm with patchy black ice. Black ice conditions are expected over much of north and portions of central Georgia this morning. - Gusty winds from 25-30mph across the area today are likely which could lead to worsening conditions in areas that still have ice accumulations. - Dangerously cold nighttime temperatures from Monday to potentially Thursday will be an added concern for those still without power and vulnerable populations. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Tuesday) Issued at 321 AM EST Mon Jan 26 2026 Showers are still lingering over the far southeastern central Georgia counties but these should come to an end in the next hour which will lead to dry conditions through at least mid week. Temperatures this morning are ranging from the teens in far north Georgia to the low to mid 30s over central Georgia. Will see temps continue to drop in central Georgia through the morning to the low 30s. Ice storm warning will continue through ~14-15z due to ice effects lingering over the area with black ice probable across much of north and portions of central Georgia this morning. A cold weather advisory is also in affect for north Georgia and areas of western Georgia for wind chills in the -4 to 15 degree range across north and central Georgia. There is also another cold weather advisory that will go into effect tonight and last through Tuesday morning for very cold wind chills from -4 in the mountains to 15 in central Georgia. Many areas north of I-20 will see wind chills below 5 degrees. Morning actual temps for Tuesday in the single digits for the mountains down to the teens in central Georgia. Winds will be a concern today especially for areas where ice accumulated as wind gusts from 25-30 mph can be expected across the region today. Temps across north Georgia will likely not get above freezing, especially in areas that saw sleet/ice accumulation which will in turn unfortunately lead to less than ideal melting conditions. One saving grace may be that we are expecting the sun to come out this afternoon which should aid in some melting efforts. Will likely still see some areas though frozen through Tuesday when temps warm to the mid to upper 30s. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Sunday) Issued at 321 AM EST Mon Jan 26 2026 The Short Version: Cold air remains in place through the week. There remains some small probability of winter weather during the weekend, but run to run variability remains high, meaning uncertainty remains high on any potential amounts or impacts, if any at all. Discussion: Cold air is mostly locked in place over the CWA for Wednesday and Thursday as the tropospheric polar vortex remains locked over the eastern half of Canada and the US. A few waves will rotate within that, with one looking progged to push a front towards the area Thursday night into Friday. Guidance (ensembles) are actually starting to lean towards keeping this system a little further to the north, so overnight temperatures Thursday into Friday have come up some...relatively speaking, since they are still in the 20s for most. Better than the teens. The trade off with the above is that the colder air now looks as though it may push into the area during the weekend. Some ensemble agreement even among different cores starting to form of a very positively tilted trough digging down deep into the south, pushing another Arctic airmass into the area. Where uncertainty gets really high is what may happen after, in terms of winter weather. Models this evening seem to like the idea of developing a low along either the Gulf coast or Atlantic coast and spinning up a decent storm with that. Both of these options likely like north and central Georgia mostly without snow...though not always. Still seeing some probabilities of 1" of snow from 10-15% in various areas in the ensembles. So, what we`ll say is to continue to monitor things. The probability of winter weather impacts remains low, but it isn`t zero. Hopefully we start to see more consistency in the next few runs and can begin to speak with a bit more confidence about what may happen, given we are getting within the 5 day time period.
