.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 236 PM EDT Mon May 11 2026

A cold front continues to advance south and east through the
forecast area, and is positioned just south of the I-85 corridor at
the time of this writing. A few isolated showers have begun to
develop in the area of week forcing immediately ahead of the front.
The warmest and most humid conditions this afternoon are expected to
be in central Georgia, roughly along and south of a line from
Columbus to Macon. Highs in this area will rise into the mid to
upper 80s while dewpoints will remain in the mid 60s. Here, SBCAPE
will be sufficient for the development for isolated thunderstorms.
However, with frontal forcing expected to continue weakening and
little to no low level shear, severe weather is not expected at
this time.

Any showers and thunderstorms that develop this afternoon are
expected to come to an end tonight as the front clears the area to
the south. Meanwhile, the parent upper trough will advance eastward
towards the Atlantic Coast, setting up drier northwesterly flow
aloft. Surface high pressure quickly moving southeastward from the
Great Lakes towards the Mid-Atlantic will drive northeasterly winds
and a weak pseudo-wedge over much of the forecast area, which may
bring some low clouds in the early morning hours. Low temperatures
on Tuesday will start out in the low to mid 50s in north Georgia
and upper 50s to low 60s in central Georgia. High temperatures
will be between 1-4 degrees below daily normals, rising into the
mid 70s to near 80.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 236 PM EDT Mon May 11 2026

Cooler conditions will linger through Wednesday with highs in the
mid 70s with lows in the mid 40s and low 50s. Temps will heat up
late next week as temps climb back into the low to mid 80s. The rest
of the week should be rain free, as the ridge continues to build.
The main concern in the forecast will be the building heat by the
end of the week. Major models indicate that 90 degree temperatures
are expected to build in as the weekend arrives, though the dry air
will limit the potential for dangerous heat indices.

Dry conditions towards the end of the week may bring back some fire
weather concerns, though most of the state has received enough rain
to reduce some of the risk that we were facing a few weeks back.
Regardless, please continue to monitor the Fire Weather Forecast as
we approach the middle of the week for potential critical fire
weather.

.AVIATION...

light SHRA/TSRA cannot be ruled out in central Georgia before 00Z,

FEW-SCT clouds between 025-035 may develop under a mid level cloud
deck building in from the east. Winds will be NW at 7-11 kts this
afternoon, diminishing to 4-8 kts after sunset and shifting to NE
by 03-04Z. Winds will shift closer to E and increase to 7-11 kts
once again during the daytime on Tuesday.
