667 FXUS62 KFFC 081908 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 308 PM EDT Tue Sep 8 2026 ...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Warmer and dry today with breezy easterly winds. - Temperatures gradually warm back up to above normal through mid to late week. - Rain and thunderstorm chances start to return across Central GA on Wednesday, then across the entire area by late week. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 304 PM EDT Tue Sep 8 2026 Current conditions across north and central Georgia are mostly dry and warm. Mostly clear skies are in place with the only shower in the area across the Cohutta Wilderness and Jones Mill area in far north Georgia. Temperatures have risen into the mid to upper 80s and should top out in the upper 80s to near 90 over the next hour or two. One thing to monitor tonight will be the temperature in Atlanta - we are currently on a record streak of days in which the temperature has remained above 70 degrees. Current forecast would get us to 69 degrees for a low Wednesday morning, so we shall see. Through tonight and tomorrow, anticyclonic rossby wave break continues to happen directly overhead across the eastern US. The upper level ridge will split with one section setting up over the SE CONUS. While this will be important to some potential changes in the sensible weather going into the weekend, the net effect through Wednesday will be more of the same - warm temperatures and little in the way of precip chances outside of some sea breeze influenced shower and thunderstorm potential in parts of east central Georgia. Highs will be in the 90s across north and central Georgia with lows tomorrow night in the upper 60s and lower 70s. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday morning through next Monday) Issued at 304 PM EDT Tue Sep 8 2026 Mid-level ridging across the southern CONUS will continue to be the main story through the beginning of the long term as rain chances remain limited over much of the area. Towards the later half of the week, the surface high pressure begins to retreat to the east as a front pushes into the Ohio River Valley. As the high pressure begins to retreat scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible in central Georgia in the periphery of the high pressure. Although a couple of storms could become strong, these storms are not expected to be severe and will have limited spotty rainfall. The main impact will be temperatures continuing to rise to the mid 90s and heat index values reaching into the low 100s again. Towards the weekend the frontal system over the Ohio Valley will begin to push southward before likely stalling just north of Georgia. Despite this the pattern in the upper levels will become more conducive to rain chances with the troughing to our north pushing the high pressure off the coast. Rain chances as a result will increase over the weekend with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected at this time. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 130 PM EDT Tue Sep 8 2026 VFR through TAF period. Only some afternoon FEW to SCT cu expected each today into tomorrow. Wind will be the primary impact this afternoon remaining on the east side at 7-12 kts with gusts up to 20 kts. This will go lighter (generally under 5 kts) overnight, picking back up to 5-10 kts after 16Z tomorrow. //ATL Confidence...18Z Update... High all elements. Lusk && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
